3 Character Domains Getting Registered Daily in Top Extensions

This may not seem like surprising news, but the number of 3 character unregistered domains (including 3 letter, 3 number and CCC combos) in the remaining top extensions are starting to shrink. Bulk buyouts are starting to become more common, and in the last year all 4 letter .com domains and 3 character.net domains have been registered. Which is the next big extension to get bought out? .org? .info? Perhaps .cn?

One day it will be too late! Buyouts are inevitable!

3 Letter Domains Continue Climb

Throughout the summer, 3 letter domain names have continued their ascent in value at a rapid pace. Since May of 2007, 3 letter domains are up in wholesale value by more than 25% and now are selling at a minimum wholesale price of over $5,o00.00.

Some are speculating that the rise from here to a minimum wholesale selling price of $10k may not be that far off. Charting seems to point to that reality as early as the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2009.

Additional to the recent climb in prices is the new interest among venture capitalists. There have been several large 3-letter domain name portfolio sales in the last 2 months. It's now not escaping the larger VC's that LLL.com domains are a powerful force in the domaining world, with particular strong growth patterns.

Exciting times ahead for LLL.com domains!

LLL .com Domains Are On A Tear!

Several recent sales have placed large smiles on the holders of some of the internet's most precious real estate: 3 Letter .com domains.

In the last two weeks, AMT.com sold for $100,000, BCF.com sold for $71,200 and CPG.com for a relative bargain of $25,400. These three sales are all of premium letter quality LLL.com domains, but even in the lower quality realm, prices are rising quickly. In the last two weeks, MXU.com sold for $7,000 and RQM.com sold for $5400.

So what does all this mean? For starters, many of these domains sold at auction, which yields the strong valuations of multiple bidders. Auction prices shed a great insight into valuation and price growth, as they allow the open market to set the final prices.

Perhaps the best insight from these sales and several other recent LLL.com sales is that the LLL.com market is starting to heat up again, and in a big way. Many have argued that letter quality rules the day in whether a specific LLL domain is "premium" or not, but with the prices LLL.com domains are commanding today, perhaps a blanket statement could now reflect that ALL LLL.com domains are premium domains.

Minimum wholesale values for June's 2007 report at www.3character.com are already showing a spike in valuation and the report due on June 1, 2007 will likely reflect a strong surge in LLL.com domain valuations.

3 Letter Domains - Supply and Demand

Over the last few months there's been a greater amount of speculation in 3 letter domains. 3 letter .com domains are selling well into the $x,xxx range minimum and have increased in value every month for the last 4 years.

As more attention is continue to be paid to 3 letter domains, many owners of 3-letter domains are reporting more and better offers coming their way. Of particular interest is the new attention of domain investors in Asia and Europe. Many in the English speaking world wrote off 3 letter domains that contained lower quality letters (such as Q, Z, Y and Z) as names with only very limited appeal. But now, with the immergence of particularly the Chinese internet market, LLL domains of all letter combos are now getting attention. In Chinese and other languages, X is a great letter and even Z gets a lot of attention.

The lesson from this is that there's no such thing as a non premium 3 letter domain name. Values continue to grow and market and demand grow while supply actually decreases (as more LLL domains fall into end-user hands daily).

3 Letter Domain Names - Rarity and Value

Over the last 6 years, the internet and domaining have changed significantly. As many of us have heard, the .com bust of 2000 and 2001 had a lot to do with seemingly unlimited venture capital and unrestrained hope in a new medium of communication: the internet. The fundamentals of the internet really never changed during this bust, but how it was utilized by businesses and users has, and now we are in the midst of a whole new realm of internet growth and expanse.

To this end, the new gold standard in domaining and web addresses are now found in the realm of 3 Letter ( LLL ), 3 Number ( NNN), and 3 Character ( CCC ) domains. First, some basic facts:

There are only 17,576 possible 3 letter domain combinations per extension
There are only 1,000 possible 3 number domain combinations per extension
There are only 46,656 possible 3 character domain combinations per extension

These may seem like large numbers at first, but in correlation to the number of registered domains (50 Million Plus), these numbers really represent a small group of some of the most valuable and rare internet real estate in domaining.

Short 3 Character domains have many qualitys that make them extremely valuable. Firstly, they are very strong for acronym use. Many companies have long titles and names. For example, take IBM. Their full name is International Business Machines. Imagine if you had to type in Internationalbusinessmachines.com each time you wanted to learn more about their company. It's so much simpler just to go to IBM.com. Acronyms are very popular in business and almost every possible 3 Letter combo has multiple acronym possibilities.

Secondly, short domains are easy to remember. If you web address was www.adfsafdasfdas.com, good luck in getting too many folks to remember that one. On the other hand, plenty of people could remember abc.com or znb.org. Shortness equals brand recognition and memorability.

Additionally, short domains are in high demand. Many people type in short domains and they therefore get a great deal of focused and random traffic. As far as the internet is concerned, traffic is king and websites can only share information with those who actually first visit them.

Finally, short domains are very valuable. Among the top extensions of .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .co.uk, .de, any 3 letter, 3 number or 3 character domain is probably worth something, and in .com, often that value is many thousands into the millions of dollars.

3 character domains are a great place to invest your education on the web and may deserve your attention and investment.
